Frequently asked questions

What is an IFSC code?

IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) is an 11-character code that identifies a bank branch for online transfers through NEFT, RTGS and IMPS. The first four letters are the bank, the fifth is always 0, and the last six identify the branch.

Where can I find my branch IFSC code?

It is printed on your cheque book and passbook, and shown in your net banking or mobile banking app under account details. You can also search for your branch on this page.

Do I need an IFSC code for UPI?

No. UPI payments use a UPI ID, mobile number or QR code. You need the IFSC only when you add a bank account as a payee for NEFT, RTGS or IMPS, or link an account by account number.

What is the difference between IFSC and MICR codes?

IFSC is used for electronic transfers. MICR is a 9-digit code printed at the bottom of cheques and used to process cheques; its first three digits are the city, the next three the bank and the last three the branch.
