Why the rate you get is different
The rate on this page is a mid-market reference rate. Nobody sells THB to you at exactly this price: each provider adds a margin, and some add fees on top.
- Bank transfers abroad: banks use their own card rate, usually 1% to 3% away from the reference rate, plus a transfer fee and GST on the conversion.
- Debit and credit cards: a foreign currency markup of about 2% to 3.5% of the amount, plus 18% GST on the markup. Some travel cards charge no markup.
- Cash at a money changer: the gap between their buying and selling rates is widest for cash, and widest of all at airports.
- Tax collected at source: remittances under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme above ₹10 lakh in a year attract TCS of 20% (2% for education or medical treatment); overseas tour packages attract 2% from the first rupee. You get it back against your income tax.
To see what you are really paying, divide the rupees debited by the THB received and compare it with ₹2.8579.

Frequently asked questions
What is 1 THB in Indian rupees today?
1 Thai baht is ₹2.8579 at the reference rate for 5 October 2026, and ₹1 is 0.3499 THB.
How much is 100 THB in rupees?
100 THB is ₹286 and 1,000 THB is ₹2,858 at the reference rate. A bank or money changer will give you somewhat less when you sell THB, and charge somewhat more when you buy it.

Compare the rate you are quoted with this one to see the margin.
Is there tax when I send money abroad from India?
Under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme you can send up to US$2,50,000 a year. Banks collect tax at source (TCS) on remittances above ₹10 lakh in a financial year: 20% for most purposes and 2% for education or medical treatment (nil if the education is paid for with a loan). Overseas tour packages attract 2% TCS from the first rupee. TCS is not an extra tax: it is credited against your income tax or refunded when you file your return.
