Why the rate you get is different
The rate on this page is a mid-market reference rate. Nobody sells SAR to you at exactly this price: each provider adds a margin, and some add fees on top.
- Bank transfers abroad: banks use their own card rate, usually 1% to 3% away from the reference rate, plus a transfer fee and GST on the conversion.
- Debit and credit cards: a foreign currency markup of about 2% to 3.5% of the amount, plus 18% GST on the markup. Some travel cards charge no markup.
- Cash at a money changer: the gap between their buying and selling rates is widest for cash, and widest of all at airports.
- Tax collected at source: remittances under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme above ₹10 lakh in a year attract TCS of 20% (2% for education or medical treatment); overseas tour packages attract 2% from the first rupee. You get it back against your income tax.
To see what you are really paying, divide the rupees debited by the SAR received and compare it with ₹25.68.

Frequently asked questions
What is 1 SAR in Indian rupees today?
1 Saudi riyal is ₹25.68 at the reference rate for 5 October 2026, and ₹1 is 0.0389 SAR. The Saudi riyal is pegged to the US dollar by the Saudi Central Bank at 3.75 SAR per dollar, so it moves against the rupee exactly as the dollar does.
How much is 100 SAR in rupees?
100 SAR is ₹2,568 and 1,000 SAR is ₹25,679 at the reference rate. A bank or money changer will give you somewhat less when you sell SAR, and charge somewhat more when you buy it.
Why is my bank's SAR rate different?
This is a mid-market reference rate, halfway between buying and selling. Banks, card networks and money changers add their own margin: often 1% to 3% for bank transfers, 2% to 3.5% on cards (plus GST on the markup), and more at airport counters. Compare the rate you are quoted with this one to see the margin.
Is there tax when I send money abroad from India?
Under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme you can send up to US$2,50,000 a year. Banks collect tax at source (TCS) on remittances above ₹10 lakh in a financial year: 20% for most purposes and 2% for education or medical treatment (nil if the education is paid for with a loan). Overseas tour packages attract 2% TCS from the first rupee. TCS is not an extra tax: it is credited against your income tax or refunded when you file your return.

The reference rates are published once each working day, around 7:30 pm India time (4 pm in Frankfurt), and this page picks them up the same evening. Weekends and European holidays carry the previous working day’s rate. Live market rates move all day.
