A big purchase: where the caps bite

Buy a ₹60,000 phone in one go at each card's own partner store, and the caps decide what comes back:

  • Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card: ₹3,000
  • Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card: ₹1,333
  • Cashback SBI Card: ₹2,000
  • Millennia Credit Card: ₹1,000

Amazon Pay ICICI has no cap, so the full 5% comes back. Flipkart Axis caps Flipkart cashback at ₹4,000 a quarter, Cashback SBI Card at ₹2,000 a statement and HDFC Millennia at 1,000 points a month, so for a large purchase it can pay to split it across statements or pick the uncapped card.

Matching the card to the store

  • Amazon: Amazon Pay ICICI (5% with Prime, 3% without).
  • Flipkart, Myntra and Cleartrip: Flipkart Axis (5%, 7.5% on Myntra).
  • BigBasket, Croma, Tata CLiQ and other Tata brands: Tata Neu Infinity (5%, up to 10% with NeuPass).
  • Swiggy and Instamart: Swiggy HDFC (10%).
  • Everything else online: Cashback SBI Card (5% on any online merchant, up to ₹2,000 a statement).

Getting the most from a shopping card

Pay on the store's own site or app with the card itself: buying through a payment app, wallet or another bank's portal can move the spend out of the higher-rate category. Check the merchant list before a big purchase, since banks add and remove partners. And pay the whole bill each month; interest at 3.75% a month (Axis Bank and ICICI Bank's rate on unpaid balances) outweighs any cashback.

How we compared these cards

Every fee, reward rate and cap here was read on the issuing bank's own website on 6 October 2026; each card links to the page we checked. Where a figure could not be confirmed on the bank's site, the card is left out. Points are converted to rupees at the value the bank itself states, and the "value a month" and "net a year" columns apply each card's caps to the spending described above the table. Surcharge waivers, welcome vouchers and milestone gifts are left out of those columns.

SmartFigure earns nothing from these cards. There are no affiliate links and no paid placements, and the order comes only from the arithmetic. This is not a recommendation: banks revise card terms often, so read the current terms on the bank's site before you apply.

Frequently asked questions

Which credit card is best for online shopping in October 2026?

For ₹10,000 a month at the card's own partner stores and ₹10,000 elsewhere, Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card gives back the most after fees. If you shop on many different sites rather than one store, Cashback SBI Card's 5% on any online merchant is the more flexible choice.

Amazon Pay ICICI or Flipkart Axis: which is better?

It follows where you shop. Amazon Pay ICICI pays 5% on Amazon for Prime members with no cap and no fee. Flipkart Axis pays 5% on Flipkart and 7.5% on Myntra, each up to ₹4,000 a quarter, for ₹500 a year unless you spend ₹3.5 lakh. Many people keep both.

Do I get cashback on EMI purchases?

Usually not. HDFC Millennia and Cashback SBI Card exclude EMI transactions, including no-cost EMIs on their partner sites. If you plan to pay in instalments, the card’s cashback rate matters less than the EMI terms.

Does buying gift cards or vouchers earn the 5%?

Often not at the higher rate. HDFC Millennia, for example, counts gift card, wallet and voucher purchases under its 1% rate, even on its partner sites.

Are online card payments safe?

Card payments in India need an OTP or similar second factor online, and RBI rules let you set separate limits for online, contactless and international use, or switch them off, in your bank’s app.
